JAMMU, Nov 9: MLA Shri Mata Vaishno Devi constituency, Baldev Raj Sharma today took serious exception to the style of functioning of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for delaying the issuance of the passes to commuters travelling on Jammu Srinagar NH in their own vehicles within a radius of 20 kilometers of Ban Toll Plaza.
The MLA along with MLA Udhampur West and former Minister, Pawan Gupta took up the issue with the Director NHAI on phone and sought his immediate intervention in sorting out the issue so that the people living within 20 km radius of Ban Toll Plaza including the residents of holy township of Katra don’t face inconvenience.
Baldev Sharma said that the authorities had agreed earlier that the people living within radius of 20 km of Ban Toll Plaza will be issued passes but the process of issuing of passes delayed for unknown reasons which had added to the sufferings of the people.
He said instead of 1200 passes which the NHAI is supposed to issue 200 to 400 passes are being issued and often there is seen a huge traffic jam at TP due to rush of vehicles who wait in long queues to get the passes.
He demanded a camp to be held at Katra every month for issuance of passes to avert unnecessary trouble and traffic jam at Ban Toll Plaza. Moreover in this digital age the online issuance of the passes be started for the convenience of the people.
Sharma said in case the NHAI fails to act quickly and settle the issue they will take up the issue with Union Minister in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh and in case the need be they will even knock the doors of Union Minister of Road, Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari to seek his intervention.
