MLAs criticize Bandipora Admn’s absence

SRINAGAR, Nov 10: Local Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) today expressed outrage over the absence of the Bandipora District Administration at a community event organized by the local fishermen’s union to address the worsening condition of Wullar lake in Zurimanz village, which the Administration claims was due to a lack of invitation.
In a statement issued by several MLAs, including Congress MLA from Bandipora, Nizamuddin Bhat; National Conference MLA from Sonawari, Hilal Akbar Lone; MLA Sopore, Irshad Rasool Kar; and MLA Kreeri, Irfan Hafeez Lone, who were present with community stakeholders at the lakeside village, it was said: “The absence of district officials, despite invitations, is a disregard for public interest and community welfare. We need an explanation for their non-attendance.”

The MLAs emphasized that the District Administration, including the district head, failed to attend the event despite being invited. “Their absence comes at the expense of the community’s trust, as these departments are viewed as guardians of public interest,” they added.
Responding to the allegations, the District Administration released a statement asserting that they had not received any formal invitation. “No formal invitation or intimation was received from the organizers, which is why officials from the District Administration could not attend,” the statement read. The administration reiterated its commitment to supporting events that benefit the community and environment and encouraged participation in such initiatives.
Meanwhile, MLA Nizamuddin Bhat expressed his concern on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday, writing: “How serious are we about public issues? Review meetings should be conducted for focused solutions and proper redressal-not just as photo sessions. Authorities should, at the very least, share meeting minutes with proposed and feasible actions.”
