JAMMU, Nov 3: The Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department of the Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered the suspension of a Medical Officer who was recently detained by police in Kathua District.

According to an official order, action against Dr Zaheer Abbas (MS Surgery), Medical Officer at EH Vijaypur, was initiated by the Secretary to the Government, H&ME, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, following communication from the Director of Health Services, Jammu. This communication reported the registration of an FIR against Dr Abbas by Police in Kathua on October 31, 2024.
“Whereas, vide communication number ES-3/2266 dated November 2, 2024, the Director of Health Services, Jammu, informed that Dr Zaheer Abbas (MS Surgery), Medical Officer at EH Vijaypur, has been detained under FIR number 0354 dated October 31, 2024, by the Kathua Police Station and has remained in police custody.
“Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred under Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules, 1956, Dr Zaheer Abbas (MS Surgery), Medical Officer at EH Vijaypur, is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect,” read an order issued by Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary of the Health and Medical Education Department.
