JAMMU, May 3: In a surprise raid conducted at Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, the Counter Intelligence Wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered mobile phones and SIM cards.
Police sources said that the CID Cl team raided the jail and recovered 8 mobile phones, 6 SIM cards, 3 mobile chargers, 14 headphones and 1 bluetooth device. The raid was carried out after Gandhi Nagar Police arrested a jail staffer in firing case wherein Royal Singh and his associates were booked.
Police sources informed that Royal Singh, a convict in much publicized Amandeep Murder case, was also running a nexus in association with jail staffer.
Vital leads were developed by police during questioning of arrested jail staffer Kuldeep Kumar.
Sources said they cannot rule out the involvement of other jail staff members in providing mobile phone facilities to jail inmates including the militants.
“Some jail staffers were also quizzed after recovery of mobile phones, SIMs and other items from the high security jail”, they added.
It is pertinent to mention here that in January 2019, in a similar raid, police had recovered a large number of mobile phone and SIM cards. Police has registered a case under FIR Number 1/2021 at Police Station CI Jammu to investigate this case further, he added.
The high-security prison, where the un-designated militant, Masood Azhar, was once detained, has over 500 prisoners, including Pakistani and local militants.
