Mock drill conducted on hijacking of plane

JAMMU, Nov 12: Indian Air Force (IAF), Airport authorities, Anti-Hijacking police and para-military personnel along with other agencies today carried out mock exercise of a plane hijacking at Jammu Airport.
“The mock drill was successful and the commandos killed the fake hijackers,” SSP Jammu Airport (Anti-Hijacking) Ashok Sharma said.
He said Regional DCOS (CA) Amritsar, Bureau of Civil Aviation C K Ranga had specially been appointed observer for the mock exercise.
Mr Sharma said all agencies were involved in the mock drill including IAF, Airport officials, 166 Battalion CRPF, police, Traffic Police, Fire Brigade, State Disaster Management Teams and other agencies.
Ambulance reached the Airport from different hospitals, which were alerted during the drill. The commandos blocked the runway and jammed the mobile telephone signals to “prevent the hijackers from speaking to their handlers”.
SP City (South) Rahul Malik and other senior police officials were at the site. Traffic Police officials controlled the traffic jams outside the Airport.
The SSP Airport said the mock exercise lasted over 40 minutes and was successful.
“All agencies played their role very positively and effectively. The drill was successful with commandos killing the hijackers,” Mr Sharma said.
