LEH, Aug 11:  The second phase of mock poll in 28 Polling Stations through Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system was conducted today.
The trial was personally inspected by Dy Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India Dr. Alok Shukla, Chief Electoral Officer J&K Umang Narula, Dy. Chief Electoral J&K Charandeep Singh and DC Leh-cum-District Election Officer Tsering Angchok at various polling stations.
Expressing satisfaction over the smooth voting at all the polling stations, Dr. Shukla instructed the presiding officers to explain the first time voters about handling the voting machine and educate them on the improvements done in the voting process with its importance.
The mock poll under the 2nd field trial of VVPAT is carried out with dual purpose; one to check the performance of the improvised Electronic Voting Machine and to take feedback from the voters on the same. The feedback was positive and favourable as the voters found the improved voting system quite easy and highly transparent maintaining secrecy with the voted candidate’s name and party symbol projecting on the paper on pressing of the button of same candidate which reassures them of their correct voting.
Election Observer Anuj Jaipurian and members of technical expert committee Prof. Rajat Mona and Prof. Indra Sen also inspected various polling stations and checked the proper execution of the voting process and functioning of the voting machines.
The set target per EVM was 1000 votes and at all the polling stations the target was achieved. The visiting officials appreciated the successful accomplishment of the mock election process in Leh district and praised the good work of district administration.
As per the instruction of the Commission the counting for Mock Election will start tomorrow at 8 AM.
