SRINAGAR, May 4: The cleanness drive at the Dal Lake was today turned into a mockery by the Department of Tourism as the NGO that had organized it had asked some people to scatter the garbage around the lake and another group was cleaning it for photo shoot.
Locals told Excelsior that an NGO had organized a cleanliness drive in Dal lake and it tasked people to scatter the garbage around the water body and others were cleaning the same garbage while the cleaning process was being filmed.
“I saw people scattering the garbage. When I objected they said that they were told to scatter it around as another group was cleaning the same,” a local said.
The locals rued that the department has made mockery of the cleanliness drive and it was aimed at just doing it for the sake of filming the ‘drive’.
“They did nothing, but made mockery of the drive; what is that you ask people to scatter garbage and clean the same by virtue of a drive. They are wasting their resources and energy, while as same resources could have been used to actually clean the Dal,” the locals said.
The locals later brought the matter into the notice of the Director Tourism, who was chief guest at the occasion. However, no action was taken against the organizers.
