JAMMU, Nov 22: The Jammu and Kashmir Youth Congress (JKPYC) staged a massive protest at Press Club, Jammu, criticising the BJP-led NDA Government of supporting financial fraud involving industrialist Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referred to as the “Modani Scam.”
The protest was organized by JKPYC general secretary Anirudh Sawhney, and led by Indian Youth Congress secretary Incharge J&K, Maan Singh Rathore. The protestors called it as the nexus between PM Modi and Adani, criticizing the Government’s complicity in exploiting national resources for personal gain.
Addressing the protest, Rathore launched a scathing attack on the Modi Government, stating that the BJP Government shields the corruption of the rich industrialists in India, “The Adani Group colluded with Azure Power, an American-listed company, to secure funds under the pretense of building solar energy projects in India. They raised Rs 25,000 crore by selling dreams to American investors. However, due to challenges in securing solar contracts in India owing to high electricity costs, Rs 2,200 crore was allegedly used to bribe Indian officials. This brazen corruption came to light during an FBI and SEC investigation in the US, which revealed fraud and bribery linked to Adani. Yet, under Narendra Modi’s watch, Adani enjoys complete immunity in India. How long will the BJP act as Adani’s spokesperson instead of serving the people?” he questioned.
Sawhney, the State general secretary of JKPYC, added that the grand jury warrant exposes the shameful truth of Adani, “The US Department of Justice has issued a grand jury warrant against Gautam Adani after a two-year investigation. It has been proven that Adani not only deceived American investors but also lied to India’s market regulator SEBI. Despite this, the Modi government has remained silent, offering no explanation to the people of India. This silence is proof of their complicity,” he added.
Ajay Lakhotra, the president National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), and Divyansh Singh Jamwal stated that the Indian government is sleeping and emphasized, “It’s ironic that while the United States takes action against Adani for bribery and fraud, the Indian government does nothing,” they said.
Senior members Rahul Tandon, Jagdeep Chahal, Anmol Kohli, Rishabh Kohli, Raghav Khajuria and Jai Bhalla also addressed the gathering.
