NEW DELHI:Prime Minister Narendra Modi is heading for seventh BRICS Summit at Ufa, an eastern city of Russia, with an explicit agenda of forging closer ties with China, Russia and South Africa to shape the new world order where voice of developing nations is heard loud and clear.
The fact that Mr Modi is going to interact with his peers in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) for the third time in less than 12 months speaks for itself the emphasis India is laying on the grouping.
He had attended the sixth BRICS Summit in Fortaleza last year, and then there was a meeting of BRICS leaders in Brisbane on the margins of the last G20 meeting.
The Prime Minister is leading the Indian delegation to the summit. His informal discussion with leaders of the group starts on July 8 when they meet in an informal milieu over dinner, before the formal summit programme begins the next morning.BRICS leaders will have a the customary meeting BRICS Business Council which five business leaders from each member state. The Business Council stays in touch through the years and they present an annual report to their leaders.
There is a restricted session which includes a working lunch and a plenary. The theme of this summit is “BRICS Partnership A Powerful Factor for Global Development. The agenda for the summit covers both political and economic issues, but the emphasis is on the economic cooperation.(AGENCIES)
