Srinagar, Apr 27: National Conference president Dr. farooq Abdullah today said that that Prime Minister Narender Modi failed to carry forward the legacy of Vajpayee during his stint in power.
Addressing a public meet at Damhal Hanjipura in Kulgam district, Dr Abdullah said the people of the State didn’t see PM Modi put into practice the catch words of ‘Jamhooriyat, Insaniyat and Kashmiriyat’.
“His words have been confined to rhetoric only. Had he the sincerity of thought to implement it, he would have done so since 2014, however, no concrete step was taken by the incumbent BJP Government led by PM Modi to realize it on ground. Today we see him tout ‘Vajpayee Formula’, why didn’t he implement it on ground for past five years. We didn’t see him do justice either with the people of our State. On the contrary the people of our State have never in history suffered so immensely as they did during PM Modi led BJP Government”, said the NC president.
Abdullah underscored the need of dialogue between India and Pakistan. “Our party has always maintained that dialogue is the only way to resolve the protracted issue of Kashmir. Our party deems Indo- Pak camaraderie essential for peace and prosperity to return to our State, which always comes in the line of fire between the two. There is no substitute to dialogue”, he said.
The NC president said that the miseries faced by the people of the State since BJP-PDP embraced each other have increased. “We had cautioned late Mufti sahib against joining hands with BJP. Our party and other secular forces in the State had offered un-conditional support to PDP to form Government in the State, but he didn’t heed to our appeal, what followed is history”, he said.
In a frontal attack on Central Government led by Prime Minister Modi, Abdullah said that Modi ji squandered the mandate of the people by its imprudent policies.
NC president while lashing out the BJP-RSS for tarnishing the secular countenance of India, said: “Today our nation is facing immense hazard in the form of communal strife. We are at cross roads, now it is up to us to decide if India remains secular progressive in its outlook where in all the communities thrive and draw their sustenance affably or a country which is tangled with the clutches of communal strife and bigotry. Now it is up to the people. The opportunity has come; we should not let it pass by us unutilized”.
NC vice president Omar Abdullah said that J&K does not face as much threat from neighboring country or the muzzle of gun as it faces from the forces who are hell-bent to destroy the special status of the State.
Addressing a public meet in Kund valley, Devsar, Omar said: “Any one holding a public post whether a Governor or a Chief Minister in our State has to take oath of the State Constitution. However anti State forces are not able to digest that realism”, he said.
The former Chief Minister said that the others who are in the fray of Anantnag Parliamentary election lack on all fronts to take on the challenges the State is facing. “On one side we have a Congress candidate, who if elected to Parliament cannot take on the forces as aggressively as Masoodi Sahib can. We have Mehbooba Ji in the fray as well, whose political slyness and bankruptcy is known to all. How can she raise voice for State in Parliament when she couldn’t do that in 2008”, he asked.
“I have never seen my people as helpless in my entire stint in politics as I get to see them. People are privy to the five years of plunder, destruction, exploitation, nepotism and repression”, he said.
