Modi Govt committed to development of border areas: Ashwani

ARNIA, July 2: Senior BJP leader and former MLA Bishnah, Ashwani Sharma today said that the decision to extend three-percent reservation benefits to people living on International Border (IB) were being followed by several other welfare initiative of the Modi Government for these people, who have faced the brunt of Pakistani firing and shelling in previous year.
Addressing a public meeting at Arnia border town of Jammu district, Sharma said that this was the long pending demand of the people of border areas that benefits of reservation be extended to them also like LoC as they also face the shelling and firing from Pakistani side and work as second line of defence.
“Previous Governments had made only hollow slogans and commitments to these people but it was only possible in Modi Government that benefits of reservation have been extended to IB as well,” he added.
Ashwani Sharma said that the things will not stop here as BJP led NDA Government at the Centre is committed to provide all basic facilities to people of border areas of Jammu region, especially to people living on International Border. “Our prime focus is on security of people and that is why Government of India has started construction of both individual and community bunkers for border dwellers and thousands of bunkers have been constructed so far on both IB and LoC,” he said.
Commenting on providing relief to people who lost their loved ones and cattle during Pakistani firing and shelling, Ashwani Sharma said that Government of India has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to next to the kin of deceased and a job under SRO-43 and Rs 50,000 compensation to people whose cattle die during the shelling. “These are historic decisions which are aimed at infusing the confidence among border people who know that Modi Government will not leave them alone at any cost,” he said.
The BJP leader assured people that all their pending demands of compensation to their crops destroyed in shelling, fencing enacted on their land and others will be addressed soon.
