JAMMU, Mar 22: Remarks by BJP MLA, Shagun Parihar representing the mountainous constituency of Kishtwar today triggered noisy scenes in the Legislative Assembly after she made a mention of Pakistan, terrorism, separatism and stone pelting in Kashmir which irked the treasury benches with majority of National Conference (NC) members.

“Earlier there were rallies of terrorists which marked the participation by all but after the abrogation of Article 370, sometimes there is G20 summit in J&K and sometime some other big events take place here,” Shagun said in LA while participating in the discussion on grants for the departments of Jal Shakti, Forest and Tribal Affairs.

The comment invited a prompt reaction from many members from the treasury benches who claimed that the BJP member was talking irrelevant to the subject under discussion.
However the Assembly Speaker, Abdul Rahim Rather asked Shagun to continue and she said: “It is astonishing that some members of the ruling party have many a times demanded in this House that there should be talks with Pakistan.”
The Kishtwar MLA said many times Pakistan has been defeated in wars by India after which its designs of spreading terrorism and separatism too failed here and now the neighbouring country has started promoting narco-addiction in J&K targeting the youth.
“Under such circumstances, our security forces very well know how to respond Pakistan,” she maintained.
Shagun also said that when Article 370 was in force in J&K, this part of the country was known for stone pelting, terrorism and separatism but after the abrogation of Article 370, investment has started making inroads and the UT is now being known for tourism and employment.
“In the last seven years, PM Modi has given houses to 2.5 lakh people in J&K under PM Awas scheme,” she continued adding: “Earlier curfew used to be there in J&K for days together due to which shops remained closed hitting the livelihood of shopkeepers but now Narendra Modi has done justice with all such shopkeepers by abrogating Article 370 and the livelihood of these shopkeepers has now improved.”
Shagun also claimed that for the first time democracy has been strengthened in J&K from Panchayat to Parliament level.
She claimed that for the first time women have got their rights and for the first time the youths here are not picking stones but are preparing for NEET, UPSC and NET exams.
“Many in this Assembly bat for talks with Pakistan and point fingers on the PM who is being respected across the world,” the BJP MLA claimed adding: “These unpaid advocates of Pakistan mourn the killing of terrorists in the hands of our security forces but when someone from our security forces is martyred they remain mum.”
The comment triggered noisy scenes echoing objections from the treasury benches with Abdul Majid Larmi of NC supported by his other colleagues standing on their places in protest against the comments by Shagun.
However, Shagun continued and said that now J&K is known for tourism and not terrorism.
Waiting eagerly for retaliation, NC’s Salman Sagar afterwards while addressing in the LA during discussion on the same grants asked the BJP members to count the number of years of BJP rule including the period of Vajpayee and compare it with that of NC to see whose tenure was more peaceful.
Shagun tried to intervene but the NC member continued “In our (NC) tenure Amaranth Yatra was peacefully organised and it was normalcy in J&K.”
He dared BJP members to have a debate on whose tenure was more peaceful.
“Your side and our side both have learned members to debate. You people have devastated Hindus and Muslims. See what is happening in Nagpur. Forget the Hindus and Muslims of J&K and talk of the entire nation and say who is breaking it,” the NC MLA maintained.
Salman also said: “We respect your sacrifices but we too fight Pakistan in Kashmir and take their bullets. Our people were also being killed. You condemn selectively. Have you ever condemned the killing of Muslims in Kashmir while we do mourn the killing of KPs and others forgetting religion.”
This irked BJP members who too objected Salman’s comments and this led to heated exchange of words leading to noisy scenes again.
