Modi must apologize for Giri Raj’s absurd statement: Mir

SRINAGAR/ JAMMU, Apr 2: Mahila Congress activists today held strong protest demonstration at Srinagar and Jammu against Union Minister Giri Raj Singh for his derogatory remarks against AICC president Sonia Gandhi and demanded his resignation from the Council of Ministers.
PCC president Ghulam Ahmed Mir, led the protest march against Giri Raj Singh and the BJP Govt in Srinagar today. Majority of them were Mahila Congress activists. They raised loud slogans against the BJP and Union Minister Giri Raj Singh, demanding his immediate dismissal. They demanded that Union Minister be sacked for his remarks against a woman.
While addressing the gathering Mr Mir alleged that Giri Raj has no respect for tall leader like Sonia Gandhi. He said people of India and Congress will not tolerate the divisive policy of BJP leader and will not allow it to succeed. By issuing such statement the BJP leaders have shown their real face and by doing such things they are tarnishing the image of country and its secular fabric. He termed the Statement of Giri Raj Singh highly deplorable and asked BJP and its leaders to apologize.
While strongly condemning the statement of Giri Raj Singh, he said every Congress worker will fight tooth and nail and will not allow BJP to spread hatred in the Country. On the one hand BJP is trying to show that it is secular and working for the development of people and on the other hand they are working on the communal agenda of RSS.
Criticizing Narendra Modi for keeping mum over Giri Raj Singh’s statement, he asked the Prime Minister and his team to apologize to country, Congress Party and particularly AICC president.
Prominent among those who participated in the March included Haji Abdul Rashid Dar MLA, Amreen Badre -vice president, Surinder Singh Chenni, Farooq Andrabi, Hilal Shah, Nazir Ahmad Khan, Shameema Iqbal, Abdul Gani Khan, Ghulam Nabi Mir Lasjan, Zahid Hussain Jan, Master Mohd Maqbool, Irfan Naqeeb and Nissar Ahmad Khan.
Meanwhile, Mahila Congress workers led by State president of the wing, Indu Pawar (Ex-MLA) held a strong protest demonstration at Kachhi Chawni Jammu, today against the Union Minister Giri Raj Singh, who made raciest remarks against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president, Rahul Gandhi.
A large number of Mahila Congress activists led by Mrs Pawar assembled at Kachhi Chawni Jammu. They were carrying Congress flags and effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Giri Raj Singh. They marched towards State BJP headquarters at Kachhi Chawni. They were stopped by a heavy contingent of police already deployed there. They burnt the effigies amidst chanting of slogans – `Sonia Gandhi Zindabad… Indian National Congress Zindabad, Modi Sarkar Hai Hai’.
Prominent among those who participated in the demonstration includes Prabha Slathia, Sushma Choudhary, Suman Lata, Suman Choudhary, Vandana, Geeta Dogra, Sita Sharma, Rita Devi and Narinder Kour.
Congress Legislature Party leader Rigzin Jora also strongly condemned the misogynist and reprehensible statement of Giri Raj Singh. “This epitomizes the mindset of the Modi Government”, he said, adding “this is not the first time that a Minister from Modi Government has resorted to racist slur”.
Seeking expelling of Minister, Mr Jora said, “Sonia Gandhi is not only the President of Congress Party but also the symbol of the strength of Indian civilization heritage that is assimilative and accommodative”.
Namarta Sharma, State general secretary Pradesh Congress Committee also condemned the remarks made by Union Minister, adding “such remarks would not be tolerated at any cost”.
