JAMMU, June 18: While former Deputy Prime Minister and senior BJP leader, L K Advani is visiting Jammu on June 23 to participate in a function organized by Pt Prem Nath Dogra Memorial Trust in connection with observance of Martyrdom Day of founder president of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee here at Jammu Club, BJP’s chairman National Election Campaign Committee (ECC) and Chief Minister, Gujarat, Narendra Modi is also visiting Madhopur in Punjab to address a public rally the same day.
Mr Advani’s visit is confined to non political function only and he will participate in a programme being organized by Pt Prem Nath Dogra Memorial Trust at Jammu Club where he will release a book written on Praja Parishad movement of 1952-53 by Dr Agnihotri a well known scholar.
Mr Modi’s visit is totally political in nature and he will address a public rally at Madhopur where besides Punjab, the BJP activists from Himachal Pradesh and J&K will also converge.
The Party sources said that the BJP workers from three States Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and J&K will participate in the rally to be addressed by Mr Modi at Madhopur.
Sources said that Modi’s visit on the day has a significance as Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee entered J&K via Madhopur after breaking the permit system and was later arrested. He died in mysterious circumstances in Srinagar Jail on June 23, 1953 and since then the BJP is observing the day as his Martyrdom Day.
Sources said after his appointment as chairman of the Party’s Election Campaign Committee Mr Modi has decided to visit all the States to take the message of the Party to every nook and corner of the country. He will start from Madhopur in Punjab on June 23 as Dr Mookerjee had also launched his struggle for breaking the permit system from here.
Sources said that from Madhopur, Mr Modi will convey the message to the people of three neighboring States including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and J&K.
Sources said Mr Advani will reach here in the morning and after release of the book at Jammu Club he will address the gathering there. Later he will return to Union Capital in the afternoon, sources added.
Sources said that BJP leader will not attend any political function in Jammu on the day.
