JAMMU, Oct 24: Former Union Minister and president J&K Pradesh Congress Committee has termed the announcement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as Rs 575 crore relief package for the flood affected victims as cruel joke with the people.
In a press statement issued here today, Prof Soz said, “ Mr Modi’s announcement in Srinagar, the other day, regarding package of relief for the sufferers of the recent devastating floods amounts to a cruel joke with the people of State. Since he was giving message to Kashmir, he should have been conscious of the level of devastation that had taken place in Srinagar and elsewhere in Kashmir. ”
The PCC president Soz further said, “Modi’s package of Rs 575 crore for reconstruction of houses to the affected people is seen here as situation of adding insult to the injury. This also shows in ample measure, his casual approach to give a helping hand to the people who had to face the ravages of severest flood in the recent history.”
The Congress president alleged that Centre has already delayed response by over two months and now Modi intends to examine the situation through a team of experts which may further delay relief. He said Mr Modi should announce the package that J&K Govt has demanded, as it is devised through a meticulous exercise. It will be reasonable for the Central Government to sanction this amount. Mr Modi should also allow international aid for the people of State, he added.
