JAMMU, Feb 17: Padma Sachdev’s Hindi translation of Mohan Singh’s Dogri Play ‘Kala Suraj’ was staged by Rangyatri on fifth day of ongoing Abhinavagupta Natyamahostav, being organized by Amateur Theatre group, at Abhinav Theatre, here today.
Kala Suraj, the State award winning play which also has distinction of being broadcast on national hook-up of All India Radio, portrayed the rot which has set in everyday life by highlighting oppression and exploitation unleashed by nepotism, wickedness and selfishness, prevailing in contemporary society. It is a clarion call to the new generations to rise against unscrupulous elements in governance as well as politics who are unabashedly usurping moral and social values for their petty material gains.
Today’s performance by young team of actors successfully brought alive angst of the younger generation who find themselves in a hopeless situation. Tightly knitted blocking in terms of positioning and movement of the characters, supported by appropriate light design resulted into strong visual compositions that augmented the context of fast paced dialogue delivery.
Arpana Kapoor as Istri/ narrator gave an impressive performance which was marked by a strong and clear speech and dialogue delivery. Other noticeable actor were Tovin Kumar as Comrade, Mohit Singh Chib as Neta, Azam Wani as Purash/ Narrator/ Shounku, Mohit Mehra as Meeri, Vivek Sangotra as Dholi, Gaurav as Trali, Amit Sharma as Fadi, Gaurav Taroch as Parhaunpida/policeman and Shilakha Sharma as Comrade’s wife.
