JAMMU, Nov 14: A monthly meeting of the police veterans of Jammu district was held under the chairmanship of Karanjit Singh, President of the ex-Policemen League, Jammu.
As per a statement, SP Jammu South, Ajay Kumar Sharma also attended the meeting, as he was invited to listen to the issues and the challenges faced by the retired police personnel.
The statement said that the meeting addressed several key issues concerning the welfare of retired police officers, including discrepancies in pension payments, non-availability of medicines at Police and Government hospitals for retired personnel, and the need for reforms in the ex-Policemen League’s laws and bylaws.
The retired police officers also discussed the renewal of the league’s constitution and the necessity for enhancing medical allowances for retired officers to be brought in line with the allowances provided to those in the Ladakh Union Territory.
Other significant concerns raised included the establishment of a police colony in Jammu district, regular meetings between retired police personnel and District SSPs or Zonal Headquarters, and the appointment of a new Chairman for the League, who will be nominated by the concerned authorities.
The meeting also saw members urging for a review of pension policies and better healthcare facilities for retired personnel.
Special mention was made of the GP Fund case of late Sub-Inspector Sarwan Lal, which had remained unresolved for several years.
The members thanked Mohammad Zahid Malik, SSP and former Commandant of the JKAP 11th Battalion, for his efforts in finalizing the GP Fund case of the late SI Sarwan Lal, who had retired in 1989 and passed away in 2001.
Among the retired officers who attended the meeting were senior officials such as SSPs Ch Chirag Din, Ranjit Singh, Mahadeep Singh Jamwal, Mukesh Kumar, S R Datta, B L Koul, D D Sharma, Ch Gulzar, and SPs Kamal Sharma, B R Chowdhary, Mohinder Singh, and Parshotam Bali, along with several other retired officers, including DSPs and Vice Presidents.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to SP Ajay Kumar Sharma for taking the time to listen to the concerns of the retired police personnel.
The gathering was followed by a vegetarian lunch, offering members an opportunity for further interaction.
