JAMMU, Dec 31: More reports of condoling death of Delhi gang-rape victim poured in as a number of political and social organizations besides individuals have prayed the Almighty for peace to the departed soul and favoured an exemplary punishment to the accused.
BJP State president Jugal Kishore Sharma alongwith Ashok Khajuria (MLA), Shamsher Singh Manhas and other leaders held a prayer meeting at party headquarters on Monday to condole the demise of rape victim. A two minute silence was observed for the peace to the departed soul. The speakers, on the occasion, stressed the need to amend law for severe punishment to the accused of such heinous crimes against women.
Bharat Vikas Parishad, J&K, also held a condolence meeting under the chairmanship of its president Dr D R Kotwal and urged the Government to ensure severe punishment to the rape accused. Those who attended the meeting, included Satya Nand Sharma, Dr Santosh Gupta, Dr Subash Gupta, Arun Sharma, Dev Ram Sharma, Bhopal Dutta, Gopal Gupta and Kulbir Singh.
Member of All J&K Movement for Peace and Justice, Kuldeep Kumar Rao has accused the UPA Government as well as opposition parties of doing nothing to change the outdated laws of the country for punishment to accused of such acts.
In Udhampur, local unit of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad organized a protest against Delhi gang rape incident. The protesters raised slogans against the Delhi Government and appealed all political as well as non-political parties to support the call for Bharat Bandh on January 3.
