The Union Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) has approved 59 road projects worth Rs 452.57 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Notably, the majority of this funding originates from the Rural Development Ministry, underscoring the Government’s commitment to enhancing rural infrastructure and further highlighting the significant role played by central aid in this endeavour. The Central Government has consistently allocated substantial funds, enabling significant infrastructure development. The diligent efforts of the UT administration have yielded positive outcomes, particularly in the realm of crucial all-weather road connectivity. This aspect has been accorded high priority, given its critical importance.
It’s noteworthy that the challenging hilly terrain and varied weather conditions present substantial challenges, particularly in maintaining all-weather connectivity in certain areas. To address these challenges, special attention has been directed towards areas where maintaining connectivity is particularly arduous. This strategic focus aims to leverage the maximum benefit from the financial assistance provided by the Central Government. It’s worth noting that there is a notable shift in approach compared to earlier times: the Government now maintains vigilance over road projects at every stage, from initial Detailed Project Reports (DPR) to the final stages of road construction. A notable advancement in this regard is the integration of GPS technology, which enables comprehensive tracking. This proactive measure serves to curb any potential corrupt practices and ensure transparency in the entire process. Waste plastic technology to be used in this road involves using shredded or melted plastic waste as a component in road construction materials, which can enhance the durability and quality of the roads. This approach contributes to reducing the consumption of traditional construction materials, such as aggregates, which might have their own environmental impact due to mining and extraction. A gradual enhancement of rural infrastructure is unfolding, transforming the way of life in rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
