More steps needed to combat COVID: BJP

JAMMU, Sept 23: BJP spokesperson and ex MLC, G L Raina today said exposure of ineptitude, negligence, wrangling and other wrongdoings in fight against COVID-19 pandemic in Jammu Division has forced administration to take up certain corrective measures. These curative steps though much delayed and insufficient are still welcome as is important to save lives of people and allay their fears. People’s trust in GMC and administration of other hospitals was hit and will be restored only after corrective measures taken translates into action on ground and improves both recovery and fatality rates. Similarly affected persons in home quarantine must receive required attention without any difficulty, he added.
He said media bulletin issued by the UT administration has revealed there are 3762 isolation beds (including ICU beds), in DCHs and DCHCs of Jammu and Kashmir UT, of which, 2649 are vacant. Out of these 1419 are in various districts of Jammu division, of which, 934 are vacant and 2343 are in different districts of Kashmir division, of which, 1715 are vacant. This sounds reassuring. But on ground patients are being sent back citing lack of beds in the hospitals as reason, he added.
This contradiction needs to be addressed at an earliest. Best way to do so is to ensure that the real-time availability of beds in Government and private COVID designated hospitals is made public online and through appropriate Apps. It is being done in most states of the country. Doing so will put an end to uncertainty. Besides, other measures be also taken on war footing.
