MoS Defence visits Siachen Glacier

JAMMU: Minister of State for Defence, Jitendra Singh visited troops located at Siachen Glacier today. The minister was accompanied by the General Officer Commanding Fire and Fury Corps.
Army spokesperson with Northern Command, during his visit carried out an aerial survey of the entire area and also landed at two forward posts on the glacier and interacted with the troops deployed there to boost morale of the troops deployed in the Siachen Glacier- highest battle ground. Earlier on his arrival at the Siachen Base Camp, Mr Singh paid homage to the brave soldiers who laid down their life in the sector by laying a floral wreath at the Siachen War Memorial, army spokesperson said, adding, later in a high level meeting the minister was briefed on the operational situation at Siachen Glacier and all along the Actual Line. Addressing to the troops at the Siachen Base Camp, Mr defense Jitendra Singh applauded the efforts put in by the valiant soldiers for the defence of the country’s frontiers and said the best of equipment, clothing and rations will be provided to ensure their high degree of operational preparedness. Here, it needs to mention that Siachen Glacier has been actively defended by own troops since 1984 in a special operation named ‘Operation Meghdoot’ and sector has seen a large number of sacrifices and acts of gallantry since then.
