RAJOURI, June 23: In a shocking incident, an eight-month-old infant daughter was allegedly killed by her mother in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district.
Reports said the incident occurred on the evening of June 22, 2024, when the child’s mother, Sharifa Begum, reportedly threw the infant’s body into a water pond, attempting to implicate her husband, Mohammad Iqbal, in the murder.
According to police sources, the motive behind this act appears to be a domestic dispute between Sharifa Begum and Mohammad Iqbal. The couple had been quarreling since Mohammad Iqbal’s second marriage a few months ago, which had caused significant tension within the family.
On the evening of the incident, Sharifa Begum allegedly raised an alarm, accusing her husband of killing her daughter and fleeing to Kashmir. However, upon investigation, the police determined that Sharifa Begum was responsible for the child’s death.
SHO Sunderbani, Inspector Shiv Dev Singh, and his team immediately reached the scene. The infant’s body was recovered from the pond and transported to the hospital for a post-mortem examination. Following the examination, the body was handed over to the family.
