JAMMU, July 12: Mother of former Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI) Jammu president Rakesh Gupta, was found dead in Ranbir canal near MBS College, here.
As per police sources, some passerby noticed body of a female floating in the Ranbir canal near MBS College and informed the police.
On getting information, police team rushed to the spot, retrieved the body from the canal with the help of locals and shifted it to mortuary of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu for autopsy.
The deceased was identified as Sarla Gupta (80), wife of Late Dr Jagmohan Gupta, a resident of Channi Himmat, District Jammu.
After completing medical and legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to legal heirs for last rites, SHO Satwari Inspector Nishant Gupta said, adding that the deceased was mother of Ex-President CCI Jammu Rakesh Gupta.
“The deceased traveled in an auto to Canal Road Jammu and later her body was found from Ranbir canal near MBS College”, he said, adding that to ascertain the cause of the death, inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC has been initiated.
Whether the lady committed suicide or died due to drowning is a part of investigation, he asserted.
The deceased was cremated later in the evening, SHO added.
