JAMMU, Sept 19: Police today busted a motor vehicle lifter gang with the arrest of its three members and recovered 6 stolen bikes on their disclosure.
According to a police spokesman, a special Anti Vehicle Theft and Recovery (AVTAR) team constituted by Dr Sunil Gupta, SSP Jammu, today arrested three youth roaming in Nanak Nagar/Shastri Nagar area in suspicious circumstances.
He said during questioning they disclosed their names as Sandeep Gupta son of Manohar Lal Gupta, resident of H No 68, Ward No 4, Bishnah, Sunil Sharma son of Ramesh Chander, resident of Babliana, Jammu and Prabjot Singh alias Shanty, son of Rajinder Singh, resident of Phinder, RS Pura.
“However, they failed to give reason about their movement in the area and didn’t have any satisfactory reply in this regard. All the three suspects were arrested in case FIR No 31/2017 under Section 379RPC and case FIR No 144/2017 under Section 379 RPC of police station Gandhi Nagar, Jammu”, the spokesman said, adding, on sustained questioning the suspects admitted involvement in lifting of motor vehicles.
He said that on their disclosure, 6 bikes stolen from different areas of the city and its outskirts like Super Speciality Hospital Jammu, Bus Stand, Gandhi Nagar, Miran Sahib and Phinder, were recovered.
The recovered bikes include a Black-Blue Hero Honda Passion Pro bearing Engine No GA08844 and Chasis No GA13539, a Black-Grey Hero Honda Splenor Pro bearing Engine No HJ06404 and Chasis No HJ08204, a Red-Black Hero Honda Passion Plus bearing registration NO JK02AP-7548, Engine NO 804146 and Chasis No GB09010, a Black Bajaj Pulsar 150CC bearing Engine NO VB61614 and Chasis NO CB00259, a Black-Blue Hero Honda Passion Plus bearing registration NO M34713 and Chasis NO 9C32021 and a Black Hero Honda Passion pro bearing registration NO JMUAF-0291, Engine NO 58774 and Chasis No F1988.
The arrest was made by Deputy SP (P), Dr Sunniya Ashkoor Wani, SHO, police station Gandhi Nagar, assisted by PSI Sandeep Sharma under the supervision of SDPO City South, Mohd Rafiq Manhas and SP City South, Sandeep Choudhary.
HC Satpal Sharma, HC Rampal, Senior Grade Constable Vikas Bali, Constable Paramjit Singh, Constable Sunil Kumar and Constable Pawan Singh were also members of the police team.
