Motorcyclist dies, another hurt in road mishap

KATHUA, May 31: A motorcyclist died while another was injured after their two bikes coming in opposite direction collided with each other at Lagate bridge on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway near here, today.
The deceased has been identified as Mukesh Kumar, 35, S/o Ramesh Verma of Ward No 3 Kathua while the injured was identified as Ajay Sharma, 22, S/o Madan Lal of Chan Arorian, Kathua.
Reports said Mukesh Kumar was on way to Jammu from Kathua while Ajay Sharma was on way from Chan Arorian to Kathua but in violation of driving norms one of them was coming from wrong side with the result the two bikes collided head on at the Lagate bridge.
Both of them fell down in the pool of blood. They were rushed to District Hospital Kathua by the police where Mukesh succumbed to his injuries while Ajay is undergoing treatment and his condition is stated to be stable till last reports came in.
The people of Kathua have criticized the Traffic Police for its slackness and failure in enforcing the traffic rules on National Highway where the motorcyclists are often seen violating the norms and instead of taking their respective tubes for driving they take the single tube in violation of rules resulting into fatal accidents.
Kathua Police has taken the cognizance of the matter and registered under Section 279/337 and 304 IPC.
