Motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run case, accused arrested

JAMMU, Mar 14: A motorcyclist was killed and his wife critically injured after being hit by a rashly driven mini-bus in Doomi area falling under the limits of police station Kanachak.
“The accused driver, Chaman Lal, who fled the scene of the accident, was arrested and his vehicle seized by the police within 24 hours of the accident,” a police official claimed.
He said that Yash Paul and his wife Tripta Devi, residents of Leher Sungal (Akhnoor), were travelling on a motorcycle bearing registration number JK02CM-5790 from Jammu to Chowki Choura, when a bus (bearing registration number JK02AV-6598) hit their bike at Gumpul on Saturday evening, resulting in critical injuries to both of them.
The official said the injured couple was rushed to Sub District Hospital Akhnoor, where Yash Paul succumbed to his injuries while his injured wife was later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for treatment.
He said accordingly, a case was registered and a special police team comprising SHO police station Kanachak Inspector Vishav Partap Singh was constituted which solved the hit-and-run case within 24 hours by arresting the accused driver and also seizing the vehicle at his disclosure.
The whole operation was conducted by the police team under the direct supervision of SDPO Domana Kousheen Koul.
