Moungri Mela concludes

UDHAMPUR, May 16: Over 15,000 devotees including men, women and children witnessed 3- day historic Shiv Parvati Moungri Mela which concluded with traditional fervor and gaiety here today.
MLA, Reasi, Baldev Raj Sharma, MLC, Kupwara, Sayed Rafiq Shah and Chairman of Panthers Party, Bhim Singh were the special guests on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the special guests appreciated the efforts of organizers for holding such type of local fairs in far flung areas of the district. The local festivals not only play a significant role in raising awareness among the masses about the beneficial schemes initiated by the Central and State Governments for their socio economic upliftment but also help preservation and promotion of our rich cultural heritage.
MLC, Shah announced Rs. 5 lakh for construction of shed for the convenience of pilgrims.
During the Mela, the devotees from all walks of life paid obeisance at Shiv Parvati Cave.
During the festival, the folk artists belonging to surrounding areas turned up in large number to sing folk songs of the areas highlighting various aspects of civilization with special reference to Lord Shiva. Besides, number of cultural troops drawn from various educational institutions presented folk dances and songs depicting the tradition of the area.
Among others, Additional SP Benam Tosh, Mela Officer, Tehsildar, Udhampur, Sanjeev Goswami , District Youth Services and Sports, Sukhdev Singh, President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Chairman Shiv Parvati Cave Shrine Development Board Moungri, Advocate Swantanter Dev Kotwal, Heads of different educational institutions, teachers and local mela committee members were present on the occasion.
