JAMMU, Aug 13: A delegation led by MP Jugal Kishore Sharma met State Backward Commission (SBC) Chairman, Jeet Lal Gupta in presence of Prof. Virender Gupta and Onkar Seth (both Members of the Commission) and demanded facilities for International Border (IB) residents at par with the residents of Line of Control (LoC) and Line of Actual Control (LAC) in J&K State.
Others who were present in the delegation were MLAs Dr. Krishan Lal, Kuldeep Kumar, Sham Choudhary, Sukhnandan Kumar, Ex-MLA Ashwani Sharma, Rashpal Verma, Parimoksh Seth and Ajay Sharma.
The delegation said that, IB mostly remains disturbed because of cross border firing and ultimately people living there have to vacate their houses and are compelled to take shelter at safer places, suffer heavy causalities, their houses get damaged, they find difficulty in cultivating their fields and studies of their children also gets affected because of the frequent displacements.
The delegation further said that the people living along IB are put to miserable financial and social conditions. A memorandum was also given to the SBC Chairman containing this demand.
The Chairman assured that Commission shall take cognizance of the issue and make positive recommendations to the Government about this demand shortly.
Meanwhile, the Commission has recommended the case of Yogi/Jogi/Nath and Bouria/Boria/Bowaria communities for inclusion in OBC list in view of their social, educational and economic backwardness.
The recommendation of the Commission shall be shortly submitted to the State Government.
