JAMMU, Mar 16: Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Hassan Khan has requested the Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram to assure speedy release of funds for various projects undertaken in his Parliamentary Constituency keeping in mind the extreme climatic conditions of the area.
Participating in the debate on general budget in Lok Sabha, the MP explained that all the developmental activities in Ladakh come to a standstill for more than six months in a year and delay in release of funds means delay in completion of projects.
Listing the projects, which have been surveyed, approved and started in Ladakh, Mr Khan said that all the connectivity measures in Ladakh ultimately lead to India’s defence preparedness in the border area, especially with China and Pakistan. Both these countries are actively engaged into strategic linkages and connectivity measures in a big way across the border with India, he maintained.
The projects, mentioned in his speech, included; two tunnels on Srinagar- Leh National Highway in Zojilar and Hang, construction of Blaspore-Manali-Leh Rail Link, two hydro power projects at Leh and Kargil, Airports at Leh and Kargil, upgradation of telecommunication network  in Ladakh and construction of National Highway from Srinagar to Leh etc.
