JAMMU, Mar 18: A delegation from the Motor Parts Dealers Association (MPDA), Transport Nagar (Narwal), led by its president, Rajinder P Kakkar, met with the Vice Chairman of Jammu Development Authority (JDA), Pankaj Kumar Sharma, to present a list of demands aimed at improving the infrastructure and operations in Transport Nagar, Jammu.
During the meeting, the delegation including key MPDA members such as Mohinder Pal Singh, Sanjay Dogra, Jaswinder Singh and Adhiya Gupta, highlighted the urgent need for regular anti-encroachment drives on major roads leading to Transport Nagar. They emphasized that illegal roadside businesses, including scrap dealers and tyre puncture kiosks, have led to severe traffic congestion and violations of JDA’s master plan.
Another major concern raised was the poor street lighting in the area, which has contributed to a rise in theft cases. The association requested the installation of high-mast lights and at least 100 new streetlights to improve security at night. The delegation also called for the introduction of idle parking facilities for trucks and buses in the newly established yards. This, they argued, would not only help in decongesting the area but also generate revenue for JDA.
Additionally, the MPDA sought an amnesty scheme for documentation related to the transfer of lease deeds and NOCs for its members. They noted that many members had already completed the necessary formalities with JDA but were still waiting for the final processing of their documents. Another key demand was the allocation of land for a free dispensary and the establishment of two public bathrooms in Transport Nagar.
Pankaj Kumar Sharma assured the delegation of prompt action. He called upon JDA’s engineering wing for an on-spot review and issued directions for early resolution. Furthermore, he committed to issuing DO letters to the Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu, and IGP Traffic Jammu to form a joint task force to address legal violations in the area.
