MPEJ flays BSNL for reducing wages of watch & ward staff

JAMMU, Oct 22: Movement for Peace, Equality & Justice (MPEJ) today criticized the BSNL in J&K for reducing the wages of watch and ward staff of its towers instead of increasing the same.
In a statement issued here, MPEJ members said that due to its errant and poor system the performance of BSNL is at its worst and that is why other telecom companies have retarded its functioning in all spheres be it rent of towers, or remuneration of watch and ward staff.
They said that instead of increasing the wages of its watch and ward staff, the BSNL authorities have reduced the same from Rs 3500 to Rs 3000 in urban and from Rs 3000 to Rs 2500 in rural areas whereas other companies have increased the wages to the extent of Rs 500 per annum.
“This seems quite unjustified and arbitrary because of rising prices in the market. The watch and ward employees across the State feel highly dejected and disappointed over such a reverse gear of BSNL”, they said and urged upon the concerned authorities to look into the matter and ventilate the sufferings of the watch and ward staff.
