JAMMU, Mar 31: MP (Rajya Sabha), Shamsher Singh Manhas, MP (Lok Sabha), Jugal Kishore Sharma, MLC Ramesh Arora and MLC Charanjit Singh Khalsa today announced Rs 50 lakh for various development works to be initiated in the J&K High Court Bar Association office.
The funds were announced by the MPs and MLCs during a function organized by J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu in High Court complex, Janipur. While Jugal Kishore announced Rs 10 lakh from his MPLAD fund for the construction of building for Bar office in the Court complex, Shamsher Singh Manhas announced Rs 20 lakh for the same. MLCs Ramesh Arora and Charanjit Singh Khalsa also announced Rs 10 lakh each from the Constituency Development Funds (CDFs) for the improvement of infrastructure for the members of the Bar.
The MPs and MLAs also took the first hand stock of the development work to be undertaken in Court complex. They assured the Bar Association that if more funds are required in future, they will definitely provide the same.
While speaking on the occasion, Jugal Kishore hailed the role of Bar Association, Jammu, saying the Bar besides taking up issues pertaining to its members, also raised issues of public importance from time to time and always remain in forefront to save guard the rights of the people of Jammu region.
Samsher Singh Manhas, in his address, said that the courts are considered as temples of justice but sometimes due to lengthy procedures and frequent adjournments, justice got delayed due to which people suffer immensely. He appealed the Bar members to render free legal aid to poor and downtrodden.
BS Slathia, senior Advocate and president, J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu along with Sachin Gupta, vice president, requested the public representatives for commencement of insurance/pension scheme for the members of the Bar Association like other States of the country.
Prem Sadhotra, general secretary of the association, requested the MPs and MLAs for taking up the matter for sanction of stipend to the newly enrolled young lawyers in the initial years of practice with the Government. He also urged them to take up the matter of increasing the strength of High Court judges with the Union Ministry of Law to lower down the pendency of cases in the courts.
