JAMMU, Feb 26: Mahajan Sewa Sangh (MSS) paid floral tribute to Lala Hansraj Mahajan on his 79th death anniversary at Gandhi Nagar, here today.
The event began with the garlanding of the portrait of Lala Hansraj Mahajan, who was also the founder of the Mahajan Sabha Jammu, Dogra Sadar Sabha and Akhil Bharatiya Mahajan Shiromani Sabha.
While paying tribute to Lala Hansraj, MSS president Neeraj Gupta said that Lala ji as a great social reformer of his time and a catalyst for social change who launched a crusade against social evils like child marriage and ‘Sati’.
“He also launched a movement for wearing Khadi, promoting brotherhood among various communities and for widow remarriage,” Gupta said and added that Lala Hansraj also advised the people to avoid extravagant and showy expenditure on social functions.
Shailender Vaid, senior vice-president of Sabha said that the Jammu Municipal Corporation will keep the name of the Dogra doyen alive for upcoming generations by dedicating a road, a bridge or other landmark on his name.
Rajesh Gupta, general secretary termed the real tribute to Sher-I-Duggar, Lala Hansraj would be to follow his style of providing service without self to people. “No doubt Mahajan ji is not with us but due to his selfless service for mankind his name will always live in our hearts,” he said.
He pioneered the formation of various associations of different communities like the Mahajan Sabha and Rajput Sabha as also of the Anjuman-i-Islamia and acted as their honorary secretary which ensured their mutual cooperation in the common task of social reform, said Rajesh Gupta.
Anil Gupta Advocate, Rakesh Gupta, Yudhvir Gupta Chief Engg. (Retd) and Arun Gupta SC (Retd) and others were present during the event.
