JAMMU, July 8: In a major decision, the Medical Teachers Association (MTA) today unanimously rejected the demand for working in the Evening Clinics, proposed by the Government.
In a signed statement issued by MTA president Dr Tariq Azad and Dr SK Bali, general secretary after a general body meeting of MTA Jammu comprising clinical faculty, said that the MTA discussed the circular of the Government wherein they were directed to work in paid evening clinics to be established in the Government Medical Colleges of the State.
“After discussing the issue threadbare, the members reached a conclusion that this module has failed in many institutions, wherever it was applies and was neither workable nor in the interest of patients or faculty of the institution,’’ the MTA said.
It added that if implemented the decision would lead to confusion and chaos in hospitals having meager resources and infrastructure and also where round the clock services are provided free of cost.
“This step would encourage malpractice among the faculty and paramedical staff,’’ it asserted.
