MTA submits memorandum to Medical Education Minister

JAMMU, Jan 21: Medical Teachers Association (MTA) today submitted a memorandum to Minister for Medical Education pertaining to ban on the private practice of Head of the Departments (HoDs) of GMCs and GDCs.
According to memorandum submitted by Dr Tariq Parvez Azad and Dr SK Bali, the practice banning order is highly discriminatory and by banning the practice of a section of faculty, who do not have any financial or executive powers is not going to help to streamline the functioning of hospitals, which is primarily the duty of administration.
The only designated HoDs in GMCs and GDCs are Principal/Dean and Medical Superintendent, whose practice already stands banned.
As per memorandum the issue of ban on private practice by Government doctors is sub-judiced as the matter is pending before the Supreme Court of India, wherein the Government has submitted that allowing the private practice by Government doctors is a policy decision and the powers for which are vested with the State.
Dr Azad and Dr Bali appealed to the Minister to keep in abeyance the order, so that faculty may not feel victimized.
