Mughal Road blocked, traffic suspended on NH for 4 hrs

JAMMU, Aug 9: Traffic was suspended on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for about four hours after land slides near Ramban while due to fresh land sliding as Mughal Road was blocked this evening.
Official sources said that due to falling of boulders and subsequent land slides at road construction site near Maroog in Ramban sector at around 4.45 pm today, the traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was suspended.
Frequent falling of boulders continued for over an hour and it disrupted restoration work on the highway for some time. The highway could be cleared by 8.30 pm and then traffic was restored. There was no rain in the area and the weather was dry in Ramban sector today. The boulders rolled down due to cutting of mountain for road widening purpose , the sources added.
Meanwhile, reports from Poonch said that due to fresh land slides near Poshana at around 5 pm, the Mughal road connecting Kashmir via Shopian with Rajouri and Poonch, was blocked today. Scores of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road.
Later, a JCB machine was pressed into service by the Mughal Road authorities and the road was cleared at around 7 pm. All the stranded vehicles were also later cleared.
