Srinagar, Mar 26: After being closed for over four months due to heavy snowfall, Mughal Road is set to reopen for one-way traffic next month, allowing passage from Shopian to Poonch.

Officials said that efforts are underway to clear the historic road, and it is expected to be open by the end of this month. “Snow clearance operations are progressing well, and we anticipate clearing till Peer Ki Gali by tomorrow. The reopening date will be determined by the District Administration Shopian, with a single track expected to be operational by Tuesday,” Abdul Rahman, mechanical engineer for Anantnag division, said.
Following heavy snowfall on December 16, the Mughal Road was shut down due to snow accumulation at various points along the highway.
This 90-kilometer stretch from Bufliyaz in Poonch to Heerpora in Shopian serves as an alternative to the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. It routinely closes in winter due to snow buildup,
