POONCH , May 1: After remaining closed for over four months, the Mughal Road, connecting Poonch Rajouri with Kashmir via Shopian, was thrown open to traffic today.
Official sources said that Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rajouri-Poonch Range, Vivek Gupta, accompanied by SSP Poonch, Ramesh Angral, gave the green nod to the first convoy including light and medium goods and passenger vehicles towards Kashmir from Behramgalla (Bafliaz) in Surankote sub division at around 11 am today.
The DIG and SSP led the convoy up to Peer Ki Gali and then returned to Poonch this afternoon. Mr Gupta said that there was still heavy snow on both the sides in Poshana and Pir ki Gali area but the road is not slippery. He said one way traffic will be allowed for the next some days on Mughal Road and tomorrow, the traffic from Shopian side to Rajour-Poonch will be allowed on this route.
