Notorious Gangster gets 10-year jail

Lucknow, Dec 15. In yet another significant blow to mafia don Mukhtar Ansari’s terror network, the gangster and his aide Bhim Singh were awarded 10 years’ imprisonment by the Gangster Court in Ghazipur in five cases related to murder and attempt to murder on Thursday. The cases include murder of a constable Raghuvansh Singh and a murderous assault on additional SP of Ghazipur among others.
The verdict was passed by the judge following the conclusion of the argument a few days ago and the court finding both Mukhtar and his associate guilty. It is viewed as a significant accomplishment for the Yogi government, which has vowed to eradicate the mafia raj in Uttar Pradesh altogether.
Mukhtar Ansari has received a sentence for the third time in the past three months. It is worth mentioning here that Mukhtar Ansari has been lodged in a jail at Banda in Uttar Pradesh for the last few years, and ED is interrogating him by taking him on remand for 10 days.
A total of 59 cases are registered against Mafia Mukhtar, out of which 20 cases are pending in the court while Mukhtar has been sentenced for the third time in the last three months. In the Yogi regime, strict action has been taken against Mafia Mukhtar and his 282 members at the same time. Action has been taken against Mukhtar in 126 cases under the Gangster Act, out of which 66 cases are related to the Gunda Act. In addition, 5 of Mukhtar’s associates have been killed in encounters.
Earlier on September 21, the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court convicted former Mukhtar Ansari and sentenced him for threatening jailer SK Awasthi and pointing a pistol at him. The case dates to 2003 when Lucknow district prison jailer SK Awasthi lodged an FIR saying that he was threatened for ordering a search of the people who came to meet Ansari in prison. And on September 23, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court sentenced him to five years in a case registered in 1999 under the Gangster Act. The court had also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Mukhtar in this 23-year-old case.
It may be recalled that Ramakant Tiwari, the jail superintendent who was credited with reforming the prison, was assassinated on February 4, 1999. He was returning from the residence of the then- District Magistrate Sadakant at seven in the evening. As soon as he reached near the Raj Bhavan, the miscreants opened fire, killing him. In that case, over a dozen people were named as accused, including MLA Mukhtar Ansari and current SP MLA of Gosaiganj Ayodhya, Abhay Singh.
The UP Police has so far seized Mukhtar’s property worth more than Rs 289, 93, 49,000 (289.93 crore) while bulldozers have destroyed his illegal property worth more than Rs 282,90,16,000 (282.90 crore).

1. Rajendra Singh murder case, case number 410/88, Section 302 IPC, Cantt Police Station, Varanasi
2. Vashishtha Tiwari alias Mala Guru murder case, case number 106/88 section 302 IPC, Ghazipur Police Station
3. Awadhesh Rai murder case, case number 229/91, Section 149, 302 IPC,Chetganj Police Station, Varanasi
4. Constable Raghuvansh Singh murder case, Case No. 294/91, Section 307, 302, Police Station- Mughalsarai, Chandauli. Deadly attack on police force while checking vehicle.
5. Murderous attack on Additional SP and other policemen in Ghazipur, case number 165/96, Sections 148, 307, 332, and 192/96 Section 3 (1), Kotwali Police Station, Ghazipur.
