KATHUA, Aug 13: Sab Ras Sahitya Sangam in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages today organized multilingual Kavi Sammelan in memory of prominent writer of State, late Mansa Ram Sharma “Chanchal” at Bhagwan Parshuram Dham, Gurha Mundian, tehsil Hiranagar.
The programme was well organized by organizing manager R P Aggarwal. On this occasion, BJP MLA from Kathua Rajiv Jasrotia was chief guest. Sab Ras Sahitya Sangam conducted ‘Kavi Sammelan’ to educate people about the importance of planting saplings and protecting the environment. The local poets read out their poems on the importance of protection of trees for the mankind and for bountiful rains and also protection from pollution.
Speaking on the occasion, Jasrotia said that there is no doubt that writers can make an impact on the social and political life of the nation by using their reputations as thinkers and writers. “There are too many voices speaking out today be they politicians, journalists, celebrities, the media, the specialists, but it is hard to hear the writers’ voice in this cacophony of voices,” he said and added that writers and storytellers are the individuals who have designated themselves with the daunting task of recreating the time, place and characters of whatever era they live in.
Voicing his concern over ignoring Hindi language, the BJP MLA stressed that Hindi was not only our national language but our heritage. “Therefore, it is important to preserve our heritage to redefine our status, symbol and individuality. We should not forget that without respecting the language, we cannot move even a step further,” Jasrotia said and appreciated the role of the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages for organizing a series of special programmes on the eve of Independence Day.
He said such events definitely provide an occasion to sit together and celebrate such festivals without any creed and colour.
