Murderers of people’s mandate can’t take high moral plank on democracy: Sadhotra, Rana

KALAKOTE, Nov 12: Senior National Conference leaders Ajay Kumar Sadhotra and Devender Singh Rana on Tuesday expressed surprise over People’s Democratic Party taking high moral plank on democracy, saying its leaders have all along trampled the will of the people in different jargons.
Addressing a day long convention of National Conference workers at Kalakote, Minister for Labour, Planning and Development Ajay Kumar Sadhotra castigated communal and opportunistic forces for dividing the people in the name of religion and region.
He accused PDP and BJP of pursuing communal, caste and regional based politics, saying this is detrimental to the pluralistic ethos of the State.
The Minister said National Conference is the only party which reflects the urges and aspirations of the people of the three regions and their sub regions. ‘Communal amity and harmony has been the hallmark of NC”, he said.
Mr Sadhotra highlighted various initiatives taken by Omar Abdullah led Government to address the problems of unemployment, welfare of weaker sections, inclusive development of all the areas with focused attention on remote and far-fung areas etcetera.
Referring to welfare measures undertaken for the upliftment of work force, the Minister, who is also the Chairman of Building Construction Workers Board, urged the skilled and unskilled workers to get registered with the agency concerned for benefitting from various schemes. He hinted at holding of special camps in the remote areas for the purpose.
In his address to the convention, the Provincial President asked: “Who were the people, who murdered democracy during dead of night in 1984 by overthrowing democratically elected and popular Government at the behest of New Delhi by deceitful means”.
Mr Rana said that National Conference has remained at the centre stage of conspiracies right from beginning and referred to the arrest of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah in 1953 because he did not compromise with his cherished principles vis a vis interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This spirit has been a guiding force for the party which flourished as a public movement, taking under ambit the people of the three regions of the state, irrespective of caste, creed and colour. “National Conference reflected unity in diversity in true sense of the term”, he said, adding that it has been, is and will remain the custodian of the unique entity of the State.
The Provincial President said that the politics of PDP leaders has been based on opportunism, deceit, falsehood and backstabbing. He made a mention of how the situation was communalized by engineering of vandalisation of worship places of the minority community in South Kashmir to prepare stage for overthrowing the Government led by Farooq Abdullah. “The anti-people machinations did not stop there; these were carried forward with venom in early nineties when a large number of innocent people cannon fodder due to wrong policies of its leaders in different guise”, he said.
Deputy Chairman Legislative Council, Javed Rana lambasted PDP for indulging in double speak and working against the interests of the people.
“People of Jammu and Kashmir know who owe allegiance to whom”, he said and referred to the confession of the former Army Chief General V K Singh for funding politicians in Kashmir. “The truth should come to fore”, he added
Another senior leader and MLA Kr Rachpal Singh said that Kalakote is a strong bastion of National Conference, which has always supported the revolutionary policies of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah.
Former Minister and MP, Mirza Abdul Rasheed called upon people to strengthen National Conference in order to steer the State to new vistas of progress and development.
Showkat Hussain Ganai, MLC and Chairman, PoK Refugees Cell of NC Rajiv Chunni also spoke on the occasion.
