JAMMU, Aug 28: Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Dr. L. Murugan today chaired a review meeting with the media units of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at Jammu.
Terming radio as the best medium of reaching out to rural populace, Murugan emphasized that besides media publicity of the Government, All India Radio and Doordarshan should focus on revenue generation as well.
During the meeting, the Minister further directed all the media units of the Ministry of I&B at Jammu to promote the use of Khadi and discourage the use of single use plastic.
Additional Director General, Region, Rajinder Chaudhary gave a detailed powerpoint presentation on the media activities and campaigns carried out by Press Information Bureau, Jammu and Kashmir & Central Bureau of Communication, J&K, Ladakh along with its field units.
During the meeting, the Minister listened to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Man Ki Baat program and instructed all the media units to promote this program further through social media handles and other important means available.
Besides officials and officers of different media units, the meeting was attended by Cluster Head AIR/DD Jammu, Rajesh Kumar, Director Doordarshan Jammu, Ravi Kumar, Joint Director, Central Bureau of Communication, J&K, Ladakh, Ghulam Abbas, Joint Director, Publication Division, Neha Jalali, RNU Head AIR/DD News, Jammu Ramesh Kumar Raina.
The Minister also visited the Bagh-e Bahu Aquarium at Bahu. Murugan, who was on a three day visit to Jammu also paid obeisance at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi & Bawe Wali Mata.
The Minister was informed by the officer in charge, Chief Project Officer Fisheries Marketing/Aquarium Jammu, Masood Hussain Sheikh that the aquarium being one of the biggest underground aquarium is spread over an area of 30 kanals. The various components of aquarium are multimedia hall, Aqua tunnel, museum, fish mount and fish tail. There are 24 numbers of aqua caves with 9 medium sized with water capacity of 3000 litres, 02 large aqua tanks with water capacity of 14000 litres each and 13 numbers of medium sized aqua-caves with 1500 litre water capacity each.
The Minister was also briefed about the 2nd phase of the aquarium which is being contracted at an estimated cost of Rs 18.57 Crores. The 2nd phase will be walk through tunnel of 66 feet length, having a frame of 50 mm thick acrylic sheet which would hold above 4.00 lakh litres of water. The said project has been funded by Smart City Limited Jammu. After the completion of the 2nd phase more tourists will be attracted which will increase the economic activity in and around Jammu.
The Minister inspected each and every component of the aquarium. At the end of his visit, Minister briefed the media about the various schemes being implemented for the welfare of the educated unemployed youth of J&K.
