JAMMU, Dec 16: Muslim migrants staged a strong protest demonstration today in front of the office of the Relief Commissioner in Jammu, demanding the immediate restoration of relief and ration for 1251 affected families.
The protestors, who were forced to leave Kashmir in 1990 and subsequent years due to militancy and the support it received from certain quarters, raised slogans to highlight their plight and called the withholding of relief a grave injustice.
Carrying placards and shouting slogans, the protestors said the affected families have been left in dire circumstances, with no income or resources to sustain themselves. Many of them are reportedly on the verge of starvation as they have been struggling without essential rations and financial support since September last year. The protestors criticized the authorities for their inaction and appealed to the Government to release the relief without further delay.
“We have been running from pillar to post for more than a year now, but our repeated appeals have fallen on deaf ears,” said a protestor. “Despite assurances from top officials, including the Lieutenant Governor, no concrete measures have been taken to address our problems.”
The migrants emphasized the need for an empathetic approach from the Government, highlighting that their struggle for survival continues unabated. “At the very least, the Government should release ration immediately so that the families, who have nothing to eat, can sustain themselves,” they urged. The protestors hoped for swift action to alleviate their suffering and ensure their basic needs are met.
