SRINAGAR, Sept 12: Endorsing  the statement of CPI (M) Member Parliament,  Dr D  Raja that Jammu and Kashmir is not  law and order or security problem, senior National Conference leader Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal today asked the  Government of India to rectify its past mistakes and fulfill the promises made with Kashmiris at the time of accession.
Dr D Raja is reported to have said, “It (J&K) is a political problem and needs a political solution. When talks are initiated one can discuss how Article 370 was eroded, how the promises and assurances given by successive Government couldn’t be kept? We need to discuss how the whole history ( of J&K ) has become a history of broken promises and assurances and GoI needs to look at the promises made with Kashmiris at the time of accession”.
Calling the statement of Dr  D  Raja as truthful, Mustafa Kamal  asked GoI to pay a serious thought to it and not ” Beat about the Bush” and deliberately make a muddle of a political problem created  in the first place. “Dilly – dallying will further confound the problem and confuse even more the already confused public opinion to the detriment of all concerned. The need of the hour is to deal with the problem “head on” with a sincere desire to put an amicable end to this festering sore of partition in 1947,  which has potential of disturbing regional stability  and world peace as never before,” he said.
The NC leader further said that to rectify past mistakes, attempt needs to be made with  utmost urgency  it demands and deserves . “This is more so given the present disturbed conditions in J&K, particularly the Valley,  which has assumed the status of a “big human tragedy” claiming lives and maiming people irrespective of age and gender almost on daily basis since last twelve weeks, and overbearing misery of normal  human life coming to a grinding halt with  hope of any relief becoming remote with every  passing day,” he added.
