MVD organizes awareness camp for transporters, locals

UDHAMPUR, Dec 15: The Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) Udhampur today organized an awareness camp to apprise the transporters and locals about the significant amendment in J&K Motor Vehicles Rules for contract carriage permits.
During the camp, the MVD officers/officials said that the aim of the move is to make process easy and pro people wherein the J&K has decided to scrap grant of Letter of Authority which was earlier mandatory for registration of commercial vehicles. They said after the amendments the Department has decided to further simplify the permit procedures and remove the granting of Letter of Authority step and now onwards, applicant can apply directly online for permit on transport department website after registration of vehicle under contract carriages segment.
They said as per latest amendment in J&K Motor Vehicles Rules, the applicant can directly approach any concerned dealer, along with requisite formalities for registration of any commercial vehicle in compliant with BS-VI Emission norms (Approved Models Only) under contract carriage segment (for built up vehicles). “In case of registration of vehicles with drive away chassis, the registration will be done by concerned RTO/ARTO Office,” they added.
“After the registration of vehicle under contract carriage segment the applicant shall apply online along with requisite documents for issuance of permit under contract carriage before plying vehicle on road,” they said and further clarified that these rules shall be implemented for registration of new vehicle under contract carriage segment after the amendments in J&K Motor Vehicle Rules and shall not be applicable in case of those vehicles where Letter of Authority has already been issued as well as any vehicle for which All India Tourist Permit has been issued and permit holder applies for its conversion to local permit after a period of twelve (12) years.
