Mysore Palace Board strengthening its security By B S Prabhurajan

MYSORE, Sept 23:
Security for the world famous Amba Vilas Palace, better known as Mysore Palace following the threats from across the country would be revamped soon.
The palace board sources told UNI, last November, a three-member team of the National Security Guards visited the palace, a major tourist attraction, to inspect the security system in place. They were accompanied by members of the Centre for Counterterrorism, a wing of the State’s internal security division.
Almost a year later, the Mysore Palace Board has begun to act on the suggestions of the team on strengthening palace  security.
The board felt that as a first step, commercial activities should be shifted off the palace premises.
The board has issued notices to the state-run Cauvery Emporium and Priyadarshini Handlooms, which have shops inside the palace complex, to shift their outlets to the old archaeology office behind the palace.
Confirming this, Deputy Commissioner P S Vastrad, who is the executive officer of board, said that this was done following the security assessment by the NSG team.
The board’s deputy director T S Subramanya said ‘We got instructions to keep commercial activities out of the palace complex. They must comply with the order before Dasara.’
‘We intend to visit Tirupati temple soon to study the  security and the ticketing systems deployed there’, he said.
Besides, an expert committee, which has advised on security at Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir near here, was expected to give its opinion on security for the palace too, he said.
More surveillance cameras would be installed. ‘Our plan is to increase the number of CCTV cameras from the existing 24 to at least 50 or more in the coming months,’ he said.
‘All these steps were expected to taken after Mysore Dasara 2012, he added.
Meanwhile, Special Forces are likely to be deployed for famous Dasara festivities which scheduled to commence from October 16.
City Police Commissioner K L Sudhir told that a request would be made to dispatch forces such as anti-sabotage force, bomb detection and disposal squads from the State police. Security along the 4.5-km Dasara procession also known as Jamboo Savari, on October 24, route would be strengthened and more surveillance cameras installed.(UNI)
