The blast, stated to be mysterious by the police, occurred around 10 pm inside the Armed Police 6th Battalion complex on the outskirts of Surankote. A deafening sound rocked the complex and immediately police personnel swung into action and cordoned off entire complex.
Later, Army, paramilitary forces and local police reached the spot and launched joint search operations. However, no arrests were made from the spot.
While there was no word officially from the police whether it was terror act or not, sources said investigations are being carried out in all aspects including a possible terror strike.
Few days back, a grenade blast took place near a religious place in Surankote. Some months back, security forces had gunned down four terrorists in upper reaches of the area.
Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said, “Some low-intensity and low-impact mysterious blast was reported last night in the parking area of the Armed Batallion of J&K Police in Surankote, due to which the window panes of some parked vehicles got damaged.”
The nature of blast is being investigated, the spokesperson said.
Security forces have been maintaining a very high alert in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch following reports about presence of some militants. Area domination operations are being carried out in upper reaches, forests and other vulnerable areas, the officials said.
