Mystery behind abandoned car solved in Rajouri

JAMMU, Apr 12: Rajouri Police today solved the mystery of an abandoned car and arrested one person, who was involved in lifting it from Jammu. Police have recovered some electronic accessories on the disclosure of the arrested person.
The Wagon-R No. HR 51T 7698 at was recovered when it had been abandoned at Chingus on the eve of Parliamentary elections on Jammu-Poonch seat.
The duo fled from the spot towards Rajouri and about one kilometer short of Kellar police naka abandoned the car on a side-road and disappeared in the nearby fields. Police and Army immediately launched a search operation to nab these suspects.
During the search of the car 13 grams of brown sugar was found inside the dashboard of the car. During preliminary enquiry it was found that the car has been stolen from Jammu two days back. The Xerox copy of driving license in the name of Sanjay Gupta S/O J.R Gupta R/O 54 Shastri Nagar Jammu was also found from the car.  The matter became more suspicious and grave as it could have been the handiwork of militants also.
A Case FIR No 165 2014 U/S 21 NDPS Act was registered and investigation started.  During the course of investigation it was found that two notorious narcotic smugglers of District Rajouri who are also history sheeters namely Mohammad Gafoor S/o Mohd Maqbool R/o Kheora Rajouri and Aftab Ali alias Taffee S/o Gh Qadir R/o Ward No 4 Rajouri had stolen the car from Jammu and were bringing some illegal consignment of brown sugar from Jammu to Rajouri and with the apprehension of being caught by police, they fled before Kallar police naka.
After hectic efforts by Rajouri Police, Gafoor Ahmad was arrested and on his preliminary questioning he confessed his involvement in the theft as well as in various other burglaries (FIR no 471 /2012 u/s 457 380 RPC , 128/ 2012 u/s 457 /380 RPC).
On his disclosure, police have recovered 4 Mobile phones, CPU of computer HP Intel core,  Pixma desktop inkjet printer, 5 Computer mouse and remittance green card of SBI . As both the accused persons are history sheeters and as per police records they are already facing trial in court of law in various other theft cases as well. (FIR No 316 /2010 , 37 /2011, 270/ 2011 , 631/ 2011 , 271 /2011, 569/ 2012, 6/ 2013 , 120/ 2013 , 355/ 2010, 355/ 2011, 667/ 2012 P/S Rajouri). Both the accused are part of an organized gang and have other associates and accomplices in Jammu also, and are involved in various burglary and narcotics/ drug peddling cases. As the other accused namely Aftab Ali alias Taffee is still absconding, more arrests and the recovery of more stolen goods is expected in the coming days.
SSP Rajouri Mubassir Latifi said the car lifting gang was part of well knit nexus and their group was not only involved in stealing cars but also smuggling narcotics and other illegal items.
The gang was involved in smuggling narcotics from Pathankot, he said.
Mr Latifi said the accused had also stolen two more cars but they had met with an accident. The gang was operating from Machi Market, Gumat.
Meanwhile, sources said that brother of the arrested accused Liaquat Ali was a militant and had come from Nepal route last year. Therefore, police was also investigating the angle of militancy, they added.
