Srinagar, June 8: The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the Directorate of Colleges, Higher Education Department, jointly organized a two-day ‘Assessors Orientation Programme’ that began today at Government College for Women on M.A. Road in Srinagar.
The event was attended by Principals from various colleges in both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions. Notable attendees from the NAAC included Dr. G.P. Upadhaya, Dr. Neelesh Pandey, Dr. S. Srikant Swamy, Dr. P. Siva Kumar and H.V. Chandrashekar.
The chief guest at the occasion was Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department. In his address, he emphasized that the assessment and accreditation exercise conducted by NAAC ensures that higher educational institutions comply with quality standards in teaching-learning processes, research, infrastructure, and student services, among other parameters. He expressed optimism that the orientation program would benefit all stakeholders and contribute to the enhancement of education quality.
During the event, the Principal Secretary also launched several initiatives of the host college. This included the e-journal ‘Dossier of Muses’ (International Journal of Literacy Studies) and the print edition of the college magazine ‘The Pamposh.’ Additionally, he inaugurated the ‘Centre for Research & Innovation,’ a multi-disciplinary science research laboratory, as well as multi-disciplinary research labs in social sciences, water management, and culture.
An exhibition was inaugurated by Alok Kumar as part of the ‘Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Development Programme.’ The exhibition showcased the skill and innovation efforts of college students.
Dr. G.P Upadhaya, Cabinet Secretary of the Government of Sikkim, highlighted the lack of necessary skill sets among educated youth, making them unemployable in the higher education sector.
