SAMBA, Sept 3: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) organised financial literacy camps at Village Smailpur and Meen Charakan of block Purmandal, in Samba district.
The programmes were organised by the District Development Manager of NABARD, Surinder Singh under “Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY)”.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh said the scheme aims at eradicating financial untouchability by providing bank accounts to the poor. Elaborating the benefits under PMJDY, he said this was not a mere bank account, but had other benefits including an RuPay debit card, Rs 1 lakh accident insurance cover, and an additional Rs 30,000 life insurance cover for those opening bank accounts before January 26, 2015.
SL Sharma, FLC, explained in detail about the procedure and documentation required for opening of accounts. He also discussed about the importance of having a bank account, advantages of saving with banks, other facilities provided by banks and benefits of borrowing from banks.
An on-spot account opening counter was also set up by the J&K Grameen Bank at the venue of the camps, where a large number of people opened their bank accounts.
